How long does it take to become a Celebrant?

With My Celebrant Buddy you can be come a Celebrant instantly. All the paperwork is taken care of, and all lessons are provided.

If you want to become a fully qualified Celebrant, it will take a lot longer (around a year).

I know that might come as depressing news for those who thought it would be as easy as signing up on the internet and getting your license in the mail.

Unfortunately, it goes a little deeper than that.

First, you have to sign up for a celebrant course. This will be a Certificate IV in Celebrancy.

On average, this course takes around nine months to a year to complete.

It covers things like the history of being a celebrant, the legal requirements, and filming simulations of actual ceremonies.

This last part usually takes the longest. Not only does it require a fair bit of logistical organisation, but it’s also pretty tricky to get a bunch of people in one room at the same time to film—especially if you have a shady brother who’s out partying until 3 a.m. the night before.

The other part of the process is registration. Even once you’ve finished your course, it usually takes the government about three months to register your license and get you up and running.

Plus, there are a few costs involved in that too.

My Celebrant Buddy essentially circumnavigates this process by providing a short online course that helps you build a ceremony from scratch.

Most importantly—maybe even more importantly—I take care of all the legal obligations on your behalf, meaning you don’t have to complete the full course.
